8. Silent saint

This small asteroid would be entirely unremarkable, if the spectrometers hadn't caught a glimpse of organic molecules on the sunlit side. Approaching, you can see it on cameras: a desiccated, human-shaped figure, sitting cross-legged on the strangely smooth surface.

Impossibly, a mumified human corpse, appearing to meditate, sits on the asteroid. The frozen eyes look like crystal spheres, reflecting the stars. There is nothing of value here, and nothing special to the corpse except the bizarre location, pose and peaceful expression. If the PCs chose to perform an EVA in order to approach the corpse, they cannot help but ask themselves the question

    "What do I want? Where am I headed?"

What is this?

As a part of the #Dungeon23 challenge, I will be creating a small adventure location intended for semi-hard sci-fi campaigns a day. Asteroids23 will consist of 365 asteroid habitats, space stations and derelict vessels to explore. While intended for a private homebrew campaign, I want it to be reasonably setting and system agnostic, usable with games such as Mothership or Death in Space. This is obviously not a dungeon in the classic sense. Notably, Asteroids23 will lack the structure inherent to a dungeon. There will be interconnectedness however, some sites will be related to each other in various ways (keys, passwords, lore, etc). I want the whole thing to function as a pointcrawl, encouraging players to double back and return to old sites now and then, unraveling one of several overarching mysteries. 23. War zone

A breeze of ionised particles, the crackle of broken transponders, heat blooming on the IR cam display and an increasingly intense tide of debris: these are the hallmarks of the aftermath of battle. The colony was hit hard, likely at catastrophic losses to both sides. It happened recently and it will be hours before government forces reach the site. You can see it now; the habitat cracked open by nuclear fire, like a singed egg of steel and stone. A frozen corpse bounces of the port sensor array. Grab from the dead what you can and get out.
